November 20 Power Rankings

Monday, November 20th, 2006

If I told you that your mid-major conference of choice would be 2 games over .500 a week into the season, and that number included the defending conference champion’s 0-3 record, how ecstatic would you be? Fans across the Patriot League have to be thrilled with the league’s 15-13 performance so far. The Patriot is 3-0 against the Ivy League, with five more matchups between the leagues this coming week. Patriot squads will also make three trips to power conference schools, and overall will have just 5 home games and 10 road games this week.

Gamecenter: Lehigh 72, Sacred Heart 63

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Key Sequence: The first seven possessions of the second half for Sacred Heart resulted in 6 missed shots and a turnover. Lehigh went 4-for-8 to start the second stanza but ran off 10 unanswered points in that span because of the Pioneers’ offensive blackout. The Mountain Hawks grabbed all 8 available rebounds, including 2 on offense, in that span.

Gamecenter: St. Joseph’s 63, Bucknell 53

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Key Sequence: With 6:03 left in the first period, McNaughton dunked to give Bucknell a 21-19 lead, the final time Bucknell would lead. Garrett Williamson hit 2 free throws to tie it up. A Badmus turnover led to Calathes hitting a three-pointer. After another turnover, Griffin fouled Williamson taking a three-pointer. Williamson went to the line and hit all 3 free throws to give the Hawks a 6-point lead.

Gamecenter: Navy 87, Stony Brook 76

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Key Sequence: With 15:00 to play, Navy led 40-36. Mike Pokopo hit consecutive three-pointers to give Stony Brook a 2-point lead and momentum. However, Navy came back firing. Adam Teague hit a three-pointer, then after a Pokopo charge, Greg Sprink hit a trey. Their next three possessions, Stony Brook turned the ball over, and each time Navy came back and hit a three-pointer. By 11:23, Navy led by 13.

Gamecenter: Colgate 55, Dartmouth 43

Sunday, November 19th, 2006

Key sequence: Dan Biber had tied the game at 30 apiece less than five minutes into the second half, when Dartmouth’s offense stalled. For the next eight minutes, the Big Green managed only two points on a Jason Meyer jumper, while Colgate scored on seven of 11 possessions. The result was a 14-2 Raider run that gave the visitors a 44-32 lead with under eight minutes remaining.
