In a game that saw more three-point shots attempted than two-pointers, the Navy Midshipmen outshot Stony Brook and downed the Seawolves 87-76. Greg Sprink led the Middies with 29 points.

Navy shot 15-for-29 from beyond the arc. Adam Teague had 6 treys, Chris Harris scored 5 of them, and Sprink added 3. Stony Brook went 11-of-20 for three. Ricky Lucas and Mike Pokopo each hit 4 treys and had 20 points. Seawolves star Mitchell Beauford struggled to 13 points on 6-of-14 shooting.

Stony Brook started out hot, claiming an early 18-7 lead. However, Navy went on a 16-2 run, led by 2 treys from Harris, to take a lead they would maintain into the second half. Navy opened up a 10-point lead in the first half, before the Seawolves brought it back close at the half.

Stony Brook briefly led in the second half, but a 15-0 run by the Midshipmen on the strentgth of 5 three-pointers put it out of reach. Navy led by as much as 18, but the Seawolves ran off 7 straight points to get close late in the game.

 
Keys to the Game
Key sequence With 15:00 to play, Navy led 40-36. Pokopo hit consecutive three-pointers to give Stony Brook a 2-point lead and momentum. However, Navy came back firing. Teague hit a three-pointer, then after a Pokopo charge, Sprink hit a trey. Their next three possessions, Stony Brook turned the ball over, and each time Navy came back and hit a three-pointer. By 11:23, Navy led by 13.
Key sign it was over After a run brought the Seawolves within 9, Stony Brook called timeout with 1:57 left and ran a set play for Pokopo to take a three-pointer. It missed, and when Navy grabbed the rebound Stony Brook began fouling. Teague hit 1 of 2 free throws, then Beauford turned the ball over. Sprink hit both free throws to make it a 79-67 game with 1:30 left.
Key performance Sprink played 40 minutes for the Midshipmen, posting a game-high 29 points. Sprink was 3-of-5 from beyond the arc, and a perfect 12-of-12 from the free throw line.
Key statistic Navy got 11 three-pointers and 40 total points from its bench, all from Harris and Teague. Stony Brook got just 10 points from its bench.
 
Notes
Navy had 17 team assists. Five Midshipmen had multiple assists.
Stony Brook outrebounded Navy 27-23. The Seawolves grabbed 12 offensive rebounds.
Kaleo Kina took only 4 shots all game. He ended up with 9 points, 3 assists and 3 steals.
Only 8 Midshipmen played at all in the game, including Derek Young, who played just 2 minutes and went scoreless.
Navy plays its home opener Tuesday night against UMES.
