Holy Cross downed Lehigh 64-53 in front of a packed Hart Center in a game broadcast live on ESPNU. The win keeps Holy Cross undefeated in league play and extends their winning streak to 9 games.

Coming fresh out of the gates, Lehigh came out gunning running to a quick 6-0 lead but that lead did not last very long. After 18:21 left in the first half, Lehigh did not see the lead throughout the rest of the game. Holy Cross played very strong zone defense, forcing Lehigh to turn the ball over 15 times in the half and Holy Cross was able to convert 18 points off of those turnovers. The Crusaders got very strong play from point guard Torey Thomas who had 10 points in the half and also 5 steals. Lehigh was kept in the game by the play of Jose Olivero who had 8 points and 2 three-pointers in the half.

The second half was completely dominated by Holy Cross’ Keith Simmons, who was held to only 4 points in the first half, came out firing. He scored 12 points in the second half while shooting 50.0% from the floor. But the real story of the second half was the great play of Thomas; he continued to control both sides of the ball. Lehigh was able to get a couple of strong runs in the second half bringing their team within 3, but every time Lehigh got close Holy Cross had an answer.

 
Keys to the Game
Key sequence With 41 seconds left in the first half Lehigh completed a 7-0 run and brought the score down to 32-26. Although they were still down 6 points going into the half, it was this drive that made it a close ball game. This drive stopped this game from being a complete blowout.
Key sign it was over With 17.7 left in the game and Holy Cross up by 6, Thomas got a pass from Tim Clifford and threw the ball up court to Alex Vander Baan. Vander Baan ran down the floor and completed the play with a great fast break lay-up. He was also fouled very hard on the play which ended up being a flagrant foul, and Vander Baan went on to hit both free-throws. This made is 62-52 and the game was iced at that point.
Key performance Thomas did everything a human being could do tonight. He played 40 minutes, scored 18, had 8 assists, 6 rebounds, and an unbelievable 7 steals. He dominated every second of this game.
Key statistic Holy Cross had 16 assists to 11 turnovers; Lehigh had 9 assists compared to 20 turnovers. The Crusaders outscored Lehigh by 10 on points off turnovers.
 
Notes
Both teams had 3 players each in double figures. Thomas (18) and Simmons (16) were joined by Clifford (12), and Olivero (18) was joined by Marquis Hall (11) and Phil Anderson (10).
Torey Thomas scored his 1000th point tonight, the 43rd player in Crusader history to reach that mark.
