Gamecenter: Holy Cross 63, Yale 58

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Key sequence: When Keith Simmons finished off a fastbreak with a layup to put Holy Cross up by 10 with 3:06 left, things looked bleak for Yale. But Eric Flato answered with a layup at the other end, and Travis Pinick blocked an Alex Vander Baan shot, then converted a layup of his own to cut the deficit to six. Alexander Zampier came up with a steal, and after a timeout, Sam Kaplan was the latest participant in the layup line, drawing the Bulldogs to within 56-52 with 1:30 left. Vander Baan misfired on a three-pointer, but Simmons grabbed the offensive rebound and Yale was forced to foul. Torey Thomas hit just one of two free throws, but Tim Clifford blocked Pinick’s shot and Vander Baan controlled the rebound. The Bulldogs fouled Doherty, who hit both shots from the line to move the margin back to seven points with 38 seconds left.

Key Sequence: In the late minutes of the first half, the Bobcats were able to close a 10-point Raider lead down to 6 by converting two foul shots and Waddy turnover into points. Waddy redeemed himself by scoring the next 5 straight Raider points, nailing a three on one possession and finishing on an excellent outlet pass from Todd Checovich to end the first half. Colgate never looked back.

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Key Sequence: St. Francis had the ball and a 54-49 lead with 2:16 left, but Berry turned the ball over. John Griffin hit a three-pointer, and after St. Francis hit 2 free throws, Vegotsky added a trey. The Red Flash ran the clock down to 55 seconds, but Cale Nelson turned the ball over and Chris McNaughton scored a lay-up to give Bucknell a 57-56 lead.

Gamecenter: American 75, NJIT 50

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Key Sequence: Coming out to start the second half, American scored 8 consecutive points. Lekavicius and Derrick Mercer hit a pair of shots while NJIT missed two. Lekavicius missed a shot, but Joneliunas tipped it in. On the other end, Brayden Billbe blocked a Highlander shot in the paint, leading to a Joneliunas dunk to cap off the run. The 8 points were part of a 17-3 run that spanned the two halves.

Gamecenter: Navy 79, William & Mary 63

Wednesday, November 29th, 2006

Key Sequence: On the first possession of the game, Kaleo Kina stole the ball from Laimis Kisielius scoring for an easy lay-up at the other end. Trey Stanton would grab another steal on ensuing Tribe possession although Corey Johnson would miss the jumper on the other end. Kisielius knotted the game at 2–2 (the game’s only tie) with a chance at a three-point play and the lead after a T.J. Topercer foul, but he would miss on the free throw. Kina scored from long on a well-guarded look with the Tribe’s Peter Stein good on a jumper to make it 5–4. A drive by Kina for a lay-up and a pair of steals both converted into easy points would bring the Mids up 11–4 at the 16:23 mark; the point differential would never be less than 7 for the remainder of the game.
