Colgate won its second straight home game, besting the Quinnipiac Bobcats 80-71. The final score doesn’t reflect the dominating performance that was put on by the Colgate Raiders. Led by guard Daniel Waddy, Colgate led most of the second half by more then 17 points and shot a dazzling 54.5 percent from three as a team.
Shooting over 50 percent from the field through out most of the first half, Colgate was able to mount an early lead. Jon Simon continued to have the hot hand in Colgate’s offense, hitting 2-of-3 from three in the opening minutes. Quinnipiac was much less effective, turning the ball over twice as much (11 to Colgate’s 5 in the first) and shooting an abysmal 36.4 percent from the field. The Bobcats missed several open jumpers.
Yet, Colgate defenders put Quinnipiac on the line often. The Bobcats only kept the game close by shooting well from the foul line, going 10-for-13. Waddy caught fire late in the half, hitting 5-7 from the field and leading all first half scorers with 11.
Colgate continued to pull away in the second. The Raiders got hot from the foul line as well, converting six straight attempts. The Bobcats offensive woes continued. None of the starting line scored in the double digits until late in the game and their offense looked intimidated by Colgate’s more physical defenders.

Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
In the late minutes of the first half, the Bobcats were able to close a 10-point Raider lead down to 6 by converting two foul shots and Waddy turnover into points. Waddy redeemed himself by scoring the next 5 straight Raider points, nailing a three on one possession and finishing on an excellent outlet pass from Todd Checovich to end the first half. Colgate never looked back.
