Gamecenter: Penn 79, Navy 58

Key sequence: Navy hit three-pointers on three consecutive possessions to trim a 14-point deficit to five. After a Mark Zoller three, Trey Stanton hit a shot with his foot on the line to make it 26-20 with five minutes left in the half. Steve Danley hit one of two at the line and after an offensive rebound by Ibby Jaaber, Zoller got a conventional three-point play to make it a four-point possession. Corey Johnson got inside for a layup, but missed the and-one free throw. At the other end, Jaaber drilled a three-pointer, then Mike Kach picked T.J. Topercer’s pocket from behind and went in for the fastbreak dunk. After a 1-for-2 performance at the stripe by Johnson, Danley hit two free throws to restore the Quaker lead to 14 at 37-23. Navy would get no closer than 11 the rest of the way.

Gamecenter: Lehigh 43, Princeton 44

Key sequence: Princeton was struggling offensively with only 25 points after nearly 30 minutes and Lehigh had recently scored seven unanswered points to open up a seven-point lead. After the two teams traded layups, Lincoln Gunn hit a three-pointer to make it a 34-30 game. The Tigers got a pair of turnovers and a missed three-pointer at the defensive end, while hitting one of two free throws on their next three possessions to pull within one. When Noah Savage drove baseline for an emphatic two-handed slam, the Tigers led by one. Each side had numerous chances to score after a flurry of offensive rebounds, but it was still a one-point Princeton lead when Kyle Neptune fouled Gunn shooting a three-pointer. Gunn hit all three free throws to finish off an 11-0 Tiger run and put Princeton up 38-34 with 4:47 left.

Gamecenter: Holy Cross 63, Yale 58

Key sequence: When Keith Simmons finished off a fastbreak with a layup to put Holy Cross up by 10 with 3:06 left, things looked bleak for Yale. But Eric Flato answered with a layup at the other end, and Travis Pinick blocked an Alex Vander Baan shot, then converted a layup of his own to cut the deficit to six. Alexander Zampier came up with a steal, and after a timeout, Sam Kaplan was the latest participant in the layup line, drawing the Bulldogs to within 56-52 with 1:30 left. Vander Baan misfired on a three-pointer, but Simmons grabbed the offensive rebound and Yale was forced to foul. Torey Thomas hit just one of two free throws, but Tim Clifford blocked Pinick’s shot and Vander Baan controlled the rebound. The Bulldogs fouled Doherty, who hit both shots from the line to move the margin back to seven points with 38 seconds left.

Gamecenter: Army 62, Brown 54

Key sequence: In a game tied 41-41, Brown had a chance to claim its first lead since the early minutes of the game, but Keenan Jeppesen couldn’t connect on a jumper. At the other end, Matt Bell put Army back on top with a three-pointer, and after a Bear turnover, Cory Sinning took advantage of a second chance and extended the Black Knights’ lead to five with a jumper. Brown only could muster a turnover and a missed layup its next two possessions before Bell made it a 48-41 game with a jumpshot at the 5:15 mark.

Gamecenter: Bucknell 72, Yale 57

Key sequence: It was a close contest, with neither team leading by more than seven, when Eric Flato drilled a three-pointer to cut the Bucknell lead to 37-34 early in the second half. At the other end, Donald Brown found Chris McNaughton inside for a layup, and after a missed three-pointer by Yale, Justin Castleberry hit two free throws. Flato couldn’t connect from deep and Casey Hughes misfired on a jumper, then Darren Mastropaolo hit one of two free throws to give Bucknell its largest lead of the game. The Bison would go on to rip off a 10-0 run, with a Brown three-point play giving them a 47-34 advantage with less than 12 minutes left in the game.1
