Keys to the Game
Key sequence In a game tied 41-41, Brown had a chance to claim its first lead since the early minutes of the game, but Keenan Jeppesen couldn’t connect on a jumper. At the other end, Matt Bell put Army back on top with a three-pointer, and after a Bear turnover, Cory Sinning took advantage of a second chance and extended the Black Knights’ lead to five with a jumper. Brown only could muster a turnover and a missed layup its next two possessions before Bell made it a 48-41 game with a jumpshot at the 5:15 mark.
Key sign it was over The Bears had narrowed a 10-point deficit to five on a Marcus Becker layup with 40 seconds left and had a chance to further cut into the Army lead after Bell hit one of two free throws. However, Becker couldn’t find the range on a three-point attempt, and by the time Brown fouled, only nine seconds remained. Sinning hit both free throws to make it a three-possession game and Army had its third win away from home on the season.
Key performance Jarrell Brown continued to provide explosive offense off the bench for Jim Crews, pouring in 21 points in 28 minutes. The junior hit 8 of 15 attempts from the field and 3 of 7 from three-point range to tie for game high-scoring honors.
Key statistic Army limited Brown to just two offensive rebounds — 7.4 percent — while grabbing 33.3 percent of the rebounds at at its own end. Strangely, the first half featured just one total offensive rebound by Jeppesen and no second-chance points for either side. Army turned around things in the second half, grabbing 8 of 19 rebounds (42.1 percent) at its end.
