Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
In a game tied 41-41, Brown had a chance to claim its first lead since the early minutes of the game, but Keenan Jeppesen couldn’t connect on a jumper. At the other end, Matt Bell put Army back on top with a three-pointer, and after a Bear turnover, Cory Sinning took advantage of a second chance and extended the Black Knights’ lead to five with a jumper. Brown only could muster a turnover and a missed layup its next two possessions before Bell made it a 48-41 game with a jumpshot at the 5:15 mark.

Key sign it was over |
The Bears had narrowed a 10-point deficit to five on a Marcus Becker layup with 40 seconds left and had a chance to further cut into the Army lead after Bell hit one of two free throws. However, Becker couldn’t find the range on a three-point attempt, and by the time Brown fouled, only nine seconds remained. Sinning hit both free throws to make it a three-possession game and Army had its third win away from home on the season.

Key performance |
Jarrell Brown continued to provide explosive offense off the bench for Jim Crews, pouring in 21 points in 28 minutes. The junior hit 8 of 15 attempts from the field and 3 of 7 from three-point range to tie for game high-scoring honors.

Key statistic |
Army limited Brown to just two offensive rebounds — 7.4 percent — while grabbing 33.3 percent of the rebounds at at its own end. Strangely, the first half featured just one total offensive rebound by Jeppesen and no second-chance points for either side. Army turned around things in the second half, grabbing 8 of 19 rebounds (42.1 percent) at its end.

Notes
– Becker led all Bears in scoring with a career-high 21 points. The senior point guard had a great shooting game, knocking down 7 of his 9 field goal attempts and 3 of 5 from the arc. Becker also added four rebounds, three assists, and two steals while playing all 40 minutes.
– Becker’s fastbreak layup off the opening tip gave Brown its only lead of the game at 2-0 three seconds into the contest.
– Sinning recorded only one field goal, but went 8-for-8 at the free throw line and registered a game-high six assists.
– Jeppesen scored 12 points for Brown and, more impressively, played 37 turnover-free minutes while notching five assists. The junior entered the game with 25 turnovers in five games.
– Brown shot just 7 of 24 (29.2 percent) and scored only 19 points in the first half, but was within six points thanks to nine Army turnovers in the first 20 minutes.
– The Black Knights return home to face uptempo VMI on Tuesday, November 28 at 7:00 pm ET.
