In the most exciting Lafayette game this season so far, Ted Detmer hit a three-pointer with 1 second left to give the Leopards a 72-69 win over St. Peter’s. St. Peter’s jumped out to an 11-0 lead to start the game, but Lafayette fought back to make it a back-and-forth game.

Lafayette coach Fran O’Hanlon changed up his starting lineup, benching Andrew Brown and Bilal Abdullah in favor of Marcus Harley and Paul Cummins. Harley and Cummins did not have good games, but Brown and Abdullah played great. Brown put up 11 points and 8 assists, and Abdullah had 14 points and 6 assists. The Leopards also received a huge lift off the bench from freshmen Jesper Andersson, who scored a career-high 18 point on 6 three-pointers. Overall, the Leopards bench outscored St. Peter’s’ 54-6.

Lafayette responded to St. Peter’s’ 11-0 lead with a 16-5 run, including 4 Andersson threes. Once the Leopards tied it, St. Peter’s struck back with back-to-back Raul Orta three-pointers to reclaim the lead, but Lafayette responded with Abdullah hitting a three and then converting a three-point play. Brown hit a three-pointer as time expired in the first half to give Lafayette a 2-point lead. In all, the teams were a combined 16-for-29 from the arc in the first half.

With 17:42 to go in the game, St. Peter’s tied the game 40-40. From there, Lafayette hit three straight three-pointers (one from Abdullah followed by two from Cummins), but St. Peter’s again struck back with a 13-2 run to tie the game. St. Peter’s would never again lead the game, but they would tie several more times, including the final seconds before Detmer’s game-winner.
