DFW post Van Harp commits to Army
15 November, 2006by Jake Wilson
Rivals.com reports Billy Van Harp of North Crowley High School in Fort Worth, TX, has committed to Army for next season. At 6-9, 240 pounds, Van Harp has excellent size for a big man. The Rivals.com article says he chose West Point over interest from Cornell, Division II Tarleton State, and Division III UT-Dallas. Van Harp transferred to North Crowley this summer from Arlington Heights. He told Rivals.com that he would be entering the Academy directly, not spending at year at the USMA Prep School.
Slant: The list of other schools involved with Van Harp isn’t exactly impressive, and while he started last year at Arlington Heights, he’s not listed as receiving any postseason honors — even at the conference level. Still, the old line about not being able to teach size comes to mind. If his game does develop, Van Harp could be a contributor down the road at Army.
