Spurs waive Charles Lee

26 October, 2006

by

Charles Lee‘s bid to make the San Antonio Spurs’ regular season roster came to an end Thursday when the Spurs waived the 2005-06 Patriot League Player of the Year. Lee had seen action in all six preseason games, totally 16 points, nine rebounds, and seven assists in 52 minutes of action.
Slant: Normally Europe is the backup plan for players who fall just short of the NBA, but the timing for late cuts like Lee is far from ideal. The European season already is under way, and with limits on the number of foreign players on rosters, spots are at a premium. With the Spurs one under the NBA’s maximum of 15 roster players, there’s a chance Lee could re-sign with the team. However, San Antonio is much more likely to use that spot on a player recently released by another team.
