This time, Lafayette couldn’t hang with their major conference opponent, getting rolled by Notre Dame 92-60. Russell Carter led the Irish with 20 points, 5 boards and 4 steals.

Like in their game with Indiana last night, Lafayette faced a double-digit first-half deficit. Unlike last night, the Leopards never rallied, and trailed by at least 16 the entire second half. Lafayette struggled to hit shots, converting just 6 of 18 three-point attempts.

Matt Betley led the Leopards with 10 points. Point guard Andrew Brown added 8 points, 4 assists and 3 steals. Rob Kurz had 16 points and 8 rebounds for the Irish, and Tory Jackson added 10 points off the bench.

Keys to the Game
Key sequence Marcus Harley hit a trey to narrow the deficit to 14-11 for the Leopards. Colin Falls responded with a three-pointer, and Kurz stole the ball to create a Jackson lay-up for the Irish. After a few turnovers back and forth, Jackson again ended up with the ball on fast break and layed it in to create a 10-point lead.
Key sign it was over Lafayette was within 16 points with 17:21 to go in the game. Carter hit a bucket, and Luke Harangody hit a jumper off a turnover then got another jumper off a defensive rebound. Notre Dame stifled any hopes of a Leopard rally with good defense and solid shooting.
Key performance Kyle McAlarney scored only 3 points for the Irish but had 12 assists and just 3 turnovers. He kept the offense running all night.
Key statistic Lafayette turned the ball over 26 times, with 15 steals credited to the Irish. Notre Dame scored 31 points off turnovers.

Notes
Notre Dame outrebounded Lafayette 35-23. On Lafayette’s offensive end, the Irish grabbed 24 of 28 available rebounds.
Freshman Andre Hines again saw big minutes for the Leopards, getting 8 points and 4 boards in 23 minutes. Freshman Marek Koltun also played, posting 2 points in 7 minutes.
Notre Dame hit just 14 of 25 free throw attempts. Jackson “led” the Irish with a 4-of-11 showing from the line.
Eight different Leopards recorded at least one assist.
