Andre Ingram scored 24 points on 6-of-8 shooting, including 5 three-pointers, to lead American to a 97-84 victory over Morgan State. After trailing 2-0, the Eagles led the rest of the game.

American stormed out to a 13-4 lead. The Bears brought the game back close a few times in the first half, but strong shooting (57.1 percent from the field, including 7 of 11 three-point attempts) kept the Eagles on top. Morgan State closed to within 10 at the half, but American maintained control all game, opening a lead as big as 19 points.

Brayden Billbe scored 16 points, blocked 2 shots and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Eagles, and Garrison Carr added 15 points on 5-of-7 three-point shooting. Ronald Timus paced Morgan State with 24 points, and Boubacar Coley added added 12 points, 9 boards and 4 blocks for the Bears.

 
Keys to the Game
Key sequence After American had opened a 13-point lead early in the first half, Morgan State brought it back close and trailed 38-31 with 5:24 left. Carr hit a three-pointers. Timus hit one of two free throws after a foul. Ingram then went to the line the next two possessions, hitting all four free throws. After a Coly jumpter cut it to 42-34, Ingram hit consecutive three-pointers to open up a 14-point lead.
Key sign it was over With 15:28 left to play in the second half and a 63-51 score, Derrick Mercer hit a basket. After a Jerrel Green jumper, Ingram hit a trey, and when Morgan State was called for a charge, Brian Gilmore put in a lay-up from Billbe. American had created a commanding 17-point lead, then the highest of the game.
Key performance Ingram had a spectacular shooting night. He was 5-of-7 from beyond the arc, and hit 7 of 8 three-point attempts.
Key statistic American converted 58.6 percent of field goals, including 61.1 percent of threes. Morgan State tried to keep up but they could never stop the Eagle shooters.
 
Notes
The Eagles still haven’t broken 100 points since Nov. 23, 1996, in a home opener against Catholic University. They won 101-66.
Derrick Mercer had 13 points on 3-of-9 shooting. Despite his off night, he had 11 assists and grabbed 4 rebounds from the point guard position.
Morgan State was just 9-for-18 from the free throw line.
After an even rebounding battle in the first half (American led 19-18), the Eagles outrebounded the Bears 18-8 in the second half. Morgan State grabbed 11 offensive boards in the first half and just 1 in the second.
Reggie Holmes hit 4 three-pointers for the Bears, 3 in the first half.
