In a shootout that featured five players from each team in double figures scoring, Lehigh fell barely short, losing to Portland State 94-90. Jose Olivero led all scorers with 22 points.
The game was a seesaw battle all night. No team ever led by more than 7 points in the second half, and there were 14 ties, including an 88-all game with 2:33 left.
The Vikings were 14-of-22 from beyond the arc. Five different players had more than one three-pointer for Portland State, led by Paul Hafford’s 4. Lehigh had just 4 total treys, but made up for it by converting 26 of 31 free throws. Olivero paced the team from the stripe with an 8-for-8 performance.
Jason Mgebroff had another big game for Lehigh, scoring 20 points and nabbing 6 boards. Mgebroff shot perfectly all night, 8-for-8 from the floor and 4-for-4 from the line.

Lehigh had possession and a 1-point lead with 1:40 left. After running time off the clock, Bryan White threw the ball out of bounds for a turnover. Scott Morrison scored to give Portland State a 1-point lead. Olivero had a shot blocked, but Marquis Hall got the rebound and passed to White, who was stripped by Juma Kamara. The clock now showed less than 30 seconds and Lehigh had to foul. Kyle Neptune committed his fifth foul stopping the clock.

Ryan Sommer hit two free throws to give the Vikings a 93-90 lead with 23 seconds left. Lehigh elected to take a two-point shot rather than go for the tie. Olivero missed a lay-up, then immediately fouled Kyle Coston who grabbed the defensive rebound. The foul was Olivero’s fifth, and took him off the court for Lehigh’s last gasp. Coston hit one of two free throws to ice the game.

Kamara scored 21 points on 8-of-12 shooting, including 3 three-pointers. He also had a huge block and a steal in the final minute of the game, helping the Vikings hold Lehigh scoreless at the end.
