After controlling the game for the first 17 minutes, the Navy Midshipmen got steamrolled by St. John’s, 72-49. Avery Patterson buried the Middies with 15 points, including 4 treys.
Kaleo Kina led Navy with 15 points. Greg Sprink only mustered 3 points on 1-of-8 shooting. T.J. Topercer, who had 17 points the previous night, scored 6 against the Red Storm.
Navy got just 12 points from the bench. Only Bryce Brigham came off the pine to play more than 10 minutes, as Billy Lange went with his five best players for most of the game.
After a Kina three-pointer gave Navy a 5-4 lead, the Midshipmen would lead the game for 14 more minutes, stretching their lead as big as 9.

With 4:53 left in the first half, Navy led 23-20. From there until halftime, the Middies went 1-for-7 from the floor with 2 turnovers. Meanwhile, the Red Storm went 4-for-4 from the floor and added 6 free throws to stake a 35-25 halftime lead. Patterson and Daryll Hill had 6 points each during this stretch, and Adam Teague had 3 missed field goals for Navy.

Coming out of halftime, Patterson hit a three-pointer. After Navy missed two jumpers, Anthony Mason nailed another trey for the Johnies. Trey Stanton missed a dunk, then fouled Lamont Hamilton, who hit two free throws to extend the lead to 18 just minutes into the second half.

Patterson, a streaky guard, scored a game-high 15 points, and was in the middle of every big scoring run St. John’s made.
