Keys to the Game
Key sequence After a Brian Richards putback gave Navy a 58-55 lead with 10:56 left in the game, Seton Hall launched a 10-0 run over the next 2:40 to take the lead for good, 65-58. The last two points came on free throws, but the punctuating basket was a breakaway slam dunk by Pirates forward Brian Laing that gave the Hall a 63-58 lead and forced Navy to take a timeout.
Key sign it was over With 55 seconds on the clock and Seton Hall’s lead cut to 73-69, the Pirates got off an inbounds pass and were able to run the clock down to 31 seconds before Kaleo Kina fouled Laing. Laing made both free throws and the Pirates called timeout. Seton Hall stole the Navy
inbounds pass and Greg Sprink fouled Laing, who made both free throws and pushed the margin to 77-69.
Key performance Laing scored 16 of his game high 27 points in the second half, making five of seven free throw attempts and all six of his free throws after intermission. He also pulled down four rebounds and grabbed three steals in that span.
Key statistic Seton Hall had its way on the offensive glass, grabbing 20 of the 47 rebounds (42.6 percent) at its offensive end, while holding Navy to 13 of 43 (30.2 percent) on the offensive boards. The Pirates had a 20-10 edge in second-chance points.
Notes

– Both teams shot poorly from the field and from the free throw line. Navy made 37.9 percent of its field goal attempts and 12 of 19 free throws to Seton Hall’s 40.6 percent from the field and 23-of-40 from the line. Navy converted a respectable 13 of its 37 three-point attempts, but Seton Hall made only four of its 23 attempts.

– Greg Sprink was Navy’s leading scored with 23 points on 7-of-21 shooting from the field, including 4 of 12 three-point attempts. He also converted five of six free throw attempts, grabbed five rebounds and recorded three assists and four steals.

– The more impressive Navy indiviual performance may have come from Adam Teague. The junior forward took all 10 of his attempts from three-point range and converted six of them, including four of five in the first half.

– Seton Hall forward John Garcia only scored six points, but pulled down a whopping 19 rebounds, including eight at the offensive end.

– The game was played at a very high pace, with Navy recording 84 possessions and Seton Hall 82.

– Navy’s next game will be at 7:00 pm ET on Saturday, November 24, against Penn in the consolation game of the Philly Classic.
