Bison, Mountain Hawks win; Navy drops another

Bucknell’s defense cracked down on the Towson Tigers, allowing them to shoot just 33.9 percent from the floor in a 71-57 win for the Bison. John Griffin scored a career-high 21 to lead Bucknell.

Towson led 17-11 with 10:28 remaining in the first half, but the Bison went on a 17-4 tear to claim a 28-21 lead less than 8 minutes later. Griffin had 3 three-pointers in that span, and Patrick Behan added 2 more treys. Bucknell went 10-of-23 from the arc for the game. Justin Castleberry hit 3 three-balls en route to 16 points, tying a career high. The Bison travel to Villanova Sunday evening for their next game.

In Bethlehem, Marquis Hall scored the final 5 points of the game to lead Lehigh to a 60-56 comeback win over St. Peter’s, the Hawks’ first win of the season. Hall had a game-high 16 points and tossed 5 assists, and Matt Szalachowski added 14 points.

Lehigh shot just 19-of-48 from the floor, but St. Peter’s did no better, hitting 21 of 59 field goals. St. Peter’s took a 56-55 lead when Wesley Jenkins hit a three-pointer with 1:01 remaining, but Hall responded with a jumper to give Lehigh the lead. St. Peter’s turned the ball over on each of their next two possessions, while Hall went 3-of-4 from the free throw line to seal the game. The Mountain Hawks head to St. Francis Saturday night as non-conference play continues.

Navy dropped to 1-2, getting outmuscled by Robert Morris 93-77. The Colonials outrebounded the Mids 50-28 and outscored them in the paint 42-28. Greg Sprink led Navy with 19 points, Derek Young pitched in 15 and Scott Brooks added 12. A.J. Jackson had 22 points and 10 rebounds to lead the Colonials. Navy faces Texas-San Antonio at the AlamoDome Saturday night.
