19 February, 2007

by

With each team having just two games left in the regular season, most have begun focusing on seeding and league tournament positioning. To that end, this is a breakdown of potential scenarios this week and what they will mean for the tournament.

The league is largely stratified at this point, with not too much room for movement in the standings this week. Holy Cross and Bucknell are doing battle for the top seed and home-court advantage throughout the tournament; Lehigh has already clinched no better nor worse than third place; American, Colgate and Navy are fighting for the fourth seed and one guaranteed home game; and Lafayette and Army are looking to avoid last place. Here’s a breakdown of what each possible scenario means.

– The Crusaders win both remaining games against Colgate and Lehigh.
– Holy Cross and Bucknell both lose to Lehigh and win their other game.
– Holy Cross and Bucknell both lose both games this week,
– Holy Cross goes 1-1 this week and Bucknell goes 0-2.

Bucknell wins first place if…
– Holy Cross loses a game this week and Bucknell beats Lehigh and Army.
– Bucknell goes 1-1 this week and Holy Cross goes 0-2.

– American loses to Navy and Lafayette, Holy Cross defeats Colgate, and Colgate defeats Army.

Navy wins fourth place if…

Army is stuck with last place if…

Lafayette is stuck with last place if…
