Bucknell’s Brown out with broken hand
1 February, 2007by Jake Wilson
Bucknell forward Donald Brown suffered a broken wrist late in the Bison’s win at Colgate on Tuesday, and is out indefinitely. Brown is averaging a team-leading 11.9 points and 6.6 rebounds per game, while shooting 58.4 percent from the floor. He began the season starting at small forward, but switched to power forward after the loss to Northern Iowa on December 2, and has averaged 13.6 points in the 14 games since. Bucknell has six Patriot League games remaining, plus the ESPNU BracketBusters at Hofstra on February 17, before beginning Patriot League Tournament play.
Slant: Losing its most effective player isn’t going to help a Bucknell team trying to catch Holy Cross. Things turned around in a big way for the Bison this year when Brown moved to power forward and Pat Flanney went with a three-guard lineup. Early indications were that Brown might be able to return in time for the Patriot League Tournament on February 28, but there has been no confirmation. With Brown out, expect Flannery to give Darren Mastropaolo back his starting power forward job. Mastropaolo has been averaging 5.2 points and 3.4 rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game on the season.
