Bucknell extended their home win streak in league games to 29, riding a big first half to a 50-36 win over Colgate. Bucknell held the Raiders to 26.7 percent shooting from the floor.

The game got off to a low-scoring start. At 4:46 to go in the first half, Colgate took a 12-10 lead on a Daniel Waddy lay-up. It proved to be Colgate’s final lead, as Bucknell went on a 17-4 run that spanned parts of both halves. Colgate did not roll over; the Raiders used a 10-2 run early in the second half to get within 31-28. They never got any closer, though, as the Bison used their toughness and experience to pound Colgate in the interior and close out the game.

Chris McNaughton scored 12 points and grabbed 7 rebounds for Bucknell; Donald Brown added 11 points and 6 rebounds. Darren Mastropaolo also got in the act with 9 points, as the Bison focused their offense on the post. Kendall Chones led Colgate with 9 points. Bucknell outrebounded the Raiders 35-21 on the game. Both teams’ next games will be at home Tuesday night: The Bison host Lehigh, and Colgate welcomes Holy Cross.

Keys to the Game
Key sequence With 2:50 left in the first half, Jon Simon hit a pair of free throws to bring Colgate within 2 points. Jason Vegotsky responded with a three-pointer, and after Simon missed a shot, Bucknell scored again on a tipped-in offensive rebound by Stephen Tyree. This shift in the game gave Bucknell the momentum it needed to begin blowing open the game, as they brought their lead to 9 at the half.
Key sign it was over With 5:53 to go, Kendall Chones brought Colgate within 10. From there, Bucknell slowed the game down considerably. Colgate failed to score in their next three possessions, two missed shots and a turnover, and by the time they scored again the clock was down to 3:04.
Key performance Once again Donald Brown did everything for the Bison. Brown had 11 points on 4-of-8 shooting, grabbed 6 rebounds, and had a team-high 5 assists.
Key statistic Colgate attempted 14 three-pointers. They made none of them.

Notes
One game after scoring 28 and hitting 8 three-pointers, Simon scored 8 points on 2-of-11 shooting. He missed all 5 three-point attempts he took.
Both teams turned the ball over more than they’d like. Colgate had 5 assists to 13 turnovers, with Bucknell grabbing 7 steals. Meanwhile, Bucknell had 11 assists to 20 turnovers, with Colgate grabbing 13 steals.
Of the 21 available rebounds on Bucknell’s offensive end, the Bison grabbed 11 of them. McNaughton had 4 offensive boards; point guard Abe Badmus added 3.
Rarely an offensive threat, Colgate center Marc Daniels had a good game, shooting 3-of-3 from the field for 8 points. He also had a block and 2 steals.
