Colgate: Emmett Davis
American: Jeff Jones | Andre Ingram

American won their first Patriot League game of the year, dismantling Colgate 70-48. Andre Ingram scored 24 points, 18 in the first half, to lead the Eagles.

Colgate stayed close briefly in the first half, but the Eagles quickly pulled away, using a 12-0 run midway through the half, and a 9-0 run later in the half with all 9 points scored by Ingram. The Raiders were ice cold all half, shooting 5-of-25 from the field. Meanwhile, American shot 41.7 percent on the half and only turned the ball over twice.

Kendall Chones helped Colgate start the second half well, scoring 7 quick points in a 7-2 Raider run to start the half. However, coach Emmett Davis sat him, and Colgate proceeded to not score in their next 7 possessions, for an 8-0 Eagle run to go up by 23 and essentially ice the game. Kendall Chones continued to play well in the half, ending up with 14 second-half points, but it was not nearly enough to bring Colgate back into it.

American travels to Army this week, while Colgate heads to Lehigh.

Keys to the Game
Key sequence Willie Morse hit a jumper to cut Colgate’s deficit to 13-10 a few minutes into the game. Starting then, Colgate failed to score their next seven possessions, while American went 5-for-7 from the field in that span, scoring 12 points.
Key sign it was over The game was not really still in doubt, but with 5 minutes remaining, Jon Simon hit a three-pointer to pull within 21 points. Any hopes of a Raider run were extinguished when Brian Gilmore responded with a three of his own.
Key performance Ingram had a vintage Andre Ingram performance, with 24 points on 9-of-15 shooting, including 3 threes. He also grabbed 6 rebounds.
Key statistic Sometimes it’s as easy as shooting percentage. Colgate was 29.2 percent from the floor; American was 43.5 percent.

Notes
During halftime, American retired the #11 of Willie Jones, who played from 1957 to 1960. The only other Eagle basketball player to have his number retired is Kermit Washington.
American created their huge lead without much use of three-pointers. They were only 2-of-13 from the arc in the first half.
American won the battle of the boards 43-32.
Colgate shook up their starting line-up, with Trevaron Vinson, Willie Morse and freshman Ben Jonson joining Kendall Chones and Simon.
