In a battle of Washington D.C. schools, American vanquished Howard 85-75. Arvydas Eitutavicius led the Eagles with 23 points off the bench.
Howard battled back from a 15-7 deficit to come within 20-19. However, Eitutavicius hit three free throws to key a 25-3 run to close out the first half. In that span, Eitutavicius had 2 three-pointers, a conventional three-point play, and the aforementioned three-foul shot possession.
The Eagles maintained control into the second half, leading by 19 with 6:12 left. Howard used a late run to make the final score respectable. The Bison hit 5 three-pointers in the final 5 and a half minutes.
Andre Ingram had 21 points for American, and Derrick Mercer had 9 points and 8 assists in 40 minutes. Darryl Hudson led Howard with 20 points, the only Bison in double figures.

Keys to the Game |
Key sequence |
American led 32-22 heading into a media timeout late in the first half, and had scored 5 straight. Howard’s next three possessions led to two missed shots and a turnover, while American had an Ingram trey, Travis Lay lay-up, and another Ingram three to go from in control of a close game to blowing out the Bison.

Key sign it was over |
Starting with 5:30 left, Curtis White and Darek Mitchell combined for three treys in consecutive possessions, but American responded to each with a two-point basket. When this run was over, Howard had cut its deficit from 17 to 14, still to much to overcome in the final minutes.
