Key Sequence: With 12:05 left in the second half, Simmons pulled down a defensive rebound and passed ahead to Thomas. Thomas brought the ball down the entire court and finished the play off with a fast break lay-up. This was the middle of the 17-3 run that Holy Cross had to start the half, and all momentum after this play was in the Crusaders’ favor.

Four games down, many more to go. We’ve already seen an overtime gem, another game come down to the final possession, and last year’s two best league teams cruise to wins. This week’s set of games is highlighted by Bucknell’s trip to Holy Cross Friday night for a game that will be nationally televised on CSTV. It seems early to say this, but the winner of that game will have to be considered the favorite for the Patriot League.

Gamecenter: Bucknell 59, Navy 51

Key Sequence: With 2:57 remaining, Navy cut their deficit to 7 on a pair of Sprink free throws. Badmus was fouled but missed both free throws. Navy had the ball and a chance to make it a two-possession game, but Sprink was called for an offensive foul away from the ball. Seconds later, John Griffin hit a lay-up to bring Bucknell’s lead back to 9.

Gamecenter: Lehigh 51, American 49

Key Sequence: With 1:45 remaining in the game, Olivero hit a three-pointer to give Lehigh a 49-47 lead. Arvydas Eitutavicius attempted a response three but was off the mark; American got the rebound but missed another shot. Olivero missed a jumper, giving the ball back to the Eagles. Eitutavicius was fouled and converted both free throws, tying the game with 24 seconds left. Lehigh held for the last shot, where Olivero missed a runner but Phil Anderson grabbed the rebound and put in a shot off the glass.

Gamecenter: Holy Cross 84, Lafayette 74

Key Sequence: With Lafayette leading 24-18 early on, Holy Cross let their defense help them out by two consecutive steals by Simmons, and a couple inside lay-ins, the Crusaders took the lead for the first time going up 29-28, and eventually taking a 7-point lead into the locker room, and never trailing again in the game after going ahead.
